Wagging Tails is looking for current and former dog owners.
If you have experience of owning a dog, but now find yourself without any pets, then providing a loving home by becoming a Wagging Tails carer can be both a fun and rewarding time for you and the dogs in your care. Alternatively if you are a current dog owner and your best friend would welcome a holiday guest this can be great company for you and your dog. At Wagging Tails we pride ourselves on the calibre of our carers and the high level of care and attention we provide to dogs on holiday. It is no wonder then that more and more Vets, dog training schools and dog groomers, not to mention other owners, recommend our services.
Having established in 2007 Wagging Tails has grown quickly due to high demand and we now have many carers reaping the benefits of a dogs boarding with them. If you feel you could open your home to a dog on holiday and fit our criteria we would be delighted to hear from you.
Our carers are all experienced with different breeds of dogs and we play to these strengths by matching suitable dogs to each carer. Prospective carers are required to complete a Carers Profile Form telling us about their experiences with dogs. This gives you an opportunity to let us know if there are any particular breeds of dog you would not be interested in boarding and how frequently you would like to board dogs.
Although we do take some weekend boards the majority are 1-2 weeks and are very much seasonal work with the Summer months, Easter and Christmas being our busiest times.
Prior to the board carers are sent the dog's Profile Form containing all the information the owner has supplied. The owner then has to visit the carer with their dog for a 'sniffing out meeting'. This gives everyone a chance to get to know one-another and an opportunity for the dogs to have a good sniff around! If after this meeting the carer does not feel happy to proceed they are required to let us know within 24 hours and the board will be placed with another carer. A dog that does not suit one carer may be perfect for another. During the board carers are required to exercise, feed and care for the dog as instructed by the owner. Carers are issued with two identification tags containing their contact details and these are to be used whenever a dog is boarding with them.
Owners supply the food, bedding, toys and treats and our carers provide the love and experience to give the dog a happy holiday. We only board puppies with carers who are experienced with pups and happy to welcome them into their home. Wagging Tails offers home boarding to only one family's dogs, this means we do not mix dogs from other family's so there will be no issues of dogs not getting along. Generally we have found the maximum number of dogs per family to be 2, sometimes 3. Carers are able to let us know how many dogs they would feel happy to board, plus when we visit to interview we will ascertain the suitability of your home to board different numbers and sizes of dogs. In addition to our interview, carers who live in an area where their local council requires anyone boarding a dog in their home to obtain a licence they will also be assessed by the council and licensed for a maximum number of dogs. All carers will be required to join our Insurance Policy. We are always in contact with Wagging Tails carers during boards and checking how the dogs are settling in. If any Wagging Tails carers are experiencing any difficulties we are here to step in and resolve the problem.
"I have been a Wagging Tails carer since May 2007 and thoroughly enjoy it. We have always had dogs in the past, but felt that we didn't want to be tied down with one of our own anymore. So this is the best of both worlds, lovely dogs to love and look after, without feeling guilty when we want some time to ourselves. All the dogs, large or small, have settled well and we are really sorry when it is time for them to go home. Owners are always delighted to find that their dogs have had a great time and settled well in their "holiday home". All my family get involved with cuddles and playing. Lisa who runs Wagging Tails is very professional and I can't praise or thank her enough for all the lovely dogs she has sent to us for their holidays... "

"I decided to be a carer for Wagging Tails because my children and I wanted a dog but knew it would complicate our life too much because we like to visit my family abroad during most school holidays. Looking after other people's dogs has been a wonderful way to provide me with the pleasure of a dog without the inconveniences. We have enjoyed all the dogs we have had so far without exception as all of them have their idiosyncrasies that made them special and fun. We love them to bits while they are with us and when they leave we know it won't be long before the next dog is coming and we can start looking forward to it. We love the buzz of a new dog, the challenge of settling it with us, the discovery of its personality but we also love return visits because the dog always jumps with joy as it recognises us. Lisa has been a wonderful person to work for because her advice and support has been invaluable as she knows more than me about dogs and puppies. I have learnt so much thanks to her. She will also never ask me to look after a dog that might be too challenging for me and will never try to push me to accept a dog for a period that I am hesitant about (like children's exams) even if it means she loses some business because of it. I also know the care and attention she takes when selecting carers so I am proud to be part of a network of trustful carers that I am happy to recommend to anyone who needs this service."

"We enjoy sharing our home with our 4-legged friends and getting to know the different breeds. We have never had a dog (yet!!!) that hasn't settled quickly.....and if fed and loved and exercised you will get back lots of fun and enjoyment."
Chris and Maureen, Hampshire Carers
"We have been Wagging tails carers since last November. We lost our own much loved Springer Spaniel earlier that year and felt lost without a dog in the house. We have found Wagging Tails is perfect for us as we can still look after dogs and we love it. It is so rewarding giving other people's dogs a good holiday and lots of love while the owners are away."
