Gloucestershire home dog boarding. Wagging Tails Franchisee Alexis Bennet with her Beagle, Brea

Just over three years ago I moved to Cheltenham, from London, and Wagging Tails has given me the perfect opportunity to work from home and have a dog!

I grew up in Wales and Warwickshire so am a country girl at heart. I enjoyed the freedom of the countryside and we had many pets, including four lovely family dogs.

Prior to launching Wagging Tails Gloucestershire I had nineteen very happy years teaching children of all ages in the Midlands, London, and even had a short stint in Sydney, Australia. Though I loved my years as a teacher I missed the countryside and animals, especially in the last fourteen years whilst living in London. In particular dogs were missing from my life.

My ambition, when I was a little girl, was to work with children or animals. Yes, I know... they say never do either! I qualified as a teacher in 1996 and spent nineteen very happy years teaching children of all ages in the Midlands, London and even had a short stint in Sydney, Australia. My most recent role was as Headmistress of a wonderful preparatory school in North West London. Although I loved my years as a teacher, I have missed the countryside and animals, especially for the last fourteen years whilst living in London. In particular, dogs were missing from my life.

In January 2016 I launched the Gloucestershire Branch of Wagging Tails. I can now work from home, have time to look after my veggie patch and chickens, have been able to get to know the local area and, most importantly, take my dog to work every day!

Our beagle Brea - which means ‘beauty’ - came into our lives in November 2015 and wormed her way into our hearts within a matter of minutes. If I thought I understood the bond families have with their dogs, I really had no idea until Brea bounded into our lives. I cannot imagine leaving her with anyone but a carefully vetted, licensed and insured Dog Carer.

What initially drew me to Wagging Tails is that the welfare and genuine love of dogs is at its heart. I am proud to have built the Gloucestershire Branch over the past few years and continue to build on this ethos. We offer dogs and owners stress free holidays and Dog Carers who had 'dog shaped holes in their hearts' the opportunity for these holes to be filled.

Wagging Tails has changed our lives for the better in many ways. I hope the assurance of a safe and loving ‘Home from Home’ family holiday for your dog will enhance your life too, giving you the peace of mind to be able to leave your four-pawed family member within a loving home and enjoy your well-earned holiday or break.

I am trained in Canine First Aid and have successfully completed the Animal Aiders Dog First Aid Training Course.

I hold a Diploma from The Academy of Dog Training and Behaviour having undertaken and passed their 'Understanding What Makes Dogs Tick' course.

I am also fully insured with Third Party Liability Insurance from Pet Business Insurance.

About Our Carers

All our carers are experienced past dog owners who sadly no longer have dogs of their own or have one dog who enjoys the company of visiting dogs. Coming from various walks of life and experienced with different breeds of dogs they have all been vetted, interviewed and assessed to provide home dog boarding to owners in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury and the surrounding areas and I would happily board Brea with each of them. Where necessary our carers are licensed by their local Council to comply with the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963 and are fully insured through Wagging Tails Pet Business Insurance. I match each owner's dogs with the most suitable carers and insist on a 'sniffing out meeting' taking place at the carers home before the board. I believe it is very important for owners to meet the chosen carer to gain peace of mind and feel confident their best friend will have a great dog holiday! I always aim to place dogs back with the same carer for subsequent holidays as the dogs and carers build a strong bond. Many owners have told me their dogs have dragged them to the carers door knowing exactly where they are and that it's holiday time!

I am always on the lookout for new dog carers. If you love the idea of Wagging Tails, are a former or current dog owner and have the time to enjoy the company of a canine companion, please call me today.

Our Aim
