Roz Bourne with her dogs Buffy and DarcyAs a child growing up I was always desperate for a dog but with my parents working full time it would not have been fair so I had to be happy with my collection of cats, hamsters and tortoises. Fast forward twenty years or so to my first puppy - a handsome black Labrador we called Buddy and my love affair with dogs began! Since then we have been so fortunate and honoured to have shared our lives with a second Labrador, two cockers, two bearded collies, a poodle, Rottie, Ridgeback cross, staffie and yorkie. We rescued the staffie aged 12 disgracefully malnourished and the yorkie aged 6 after he was abandoned tied to a lamp post. In their way they thanked us every minute of the day giving so much unconditional love and trust and this is why, whenever we consider going on holiday , my first concern is always "who will look after my babies". They would hate kennels and I need to know that who ever cares for them doesn't think I have lost the plot when I give them a list of their individual needs and quirks. I am fortunate to have some great like-minded friends and we help each other where possible but I am aware many people might not have this support.

Five years ago my daughter qualified as a City and Guilds pet groomer and started her own business at home. As it became too successful for her to manage single handed I gave up my teaching post and joined her. I groomed everything from guinea pigs, rabbits and cats but primarily, of course, dogs. I built up wonderful relationships with owners and their pets over this time and they all had a common worry - where to put their dogs when they go away. I was frequently asked if I would have them!!

When I was recently looking into possible business opportunities and discovered Wagging Tails were looking for someone to take over the KT Territory in Surrey I became extremely interested and excited. Here was my chance to help these people find the most suitable holiday home for their own precious pets. I already have a team of dedicated, caring, dog-loving carers and I am looking forward to meeting more people wanting to join us and working with and supporting them 24/7 in their quest to give their doggy guests great holidays while their owners can relax and enjoy their own.

About Our Carers

All our carers are experienced past dog owners who sadly no longer have dogs of their own or have one dog who enjoys the company of visiting dogs. Coming from various walks of life and experienced with different breeds of dogs they have all been vetted, interviewed and assessed and I would happily board Buffy and Darcy with each of them. Where necessary our carers are licensed by their local Council to comply with the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963 and are fully insured through Wagging Tails Pet Business Insurance. I match each owner's dogs with the most suitable carers and insist on a 'sniffing out meeting' taking place at the carers home before the board. I believe it is very important for owners to meet the chosen carer to gain peace of mind and feel confident their best friend will have a great holiday! I always aim to place dogs back with the same carer for subsequent holidays as the dogs and carers build a strong bond. Many owners have told me their dogs have dragged them to the carers door knowing exactly where they are and that it's holiday time!

I am trained in Canine First Aid and have successfully completed the Animal Aiders Dog First Aid Training Course.
