Berkshire dog boarding Franchisee Sunny Montague with her Springer Spaniel PicklesI grew up with a houseful of dogs of every breed imaginable who were part of the family and I have had a dog of some description for most of my life. When I was about eight years old, my mum bought home a German Shepherd puppy called Heidi who was meant to be her pet. Well, Heidi had different ideas. She walked around the excitedly gathered family, sniffed my foot, sat on it and wouldn’t move. She became my shadow and constant companion, sleeping outside my bedroom window (we lived in Africa) and waiting by the gates for me after school. Heidi was more than a pet, she was my friend and I still miss her today.

I worked for British Airways for many years before I had my daughter and was promoted to on-board manager soon after joining the airline. My role was to ensure that excellent customer service was delivered by me and my crew, whichever cabin I worked in. Having given excellent service, it’s also something I expect to receive and was one of the things which stood out to me when I used Wagging Tails as an owner to give my dog, Pickles, a holiday.

When Pickles came home from a holiday with her Wagging Tails carer Pauline I received a charming letter with an update about her time with Pauline and some pictures of her stay. I was bowled over and went straight to the Wagging Tails web site to see if I could become involved with the business.

My dream was to own my own business and finally I’ve found one which offers a service I care deeply about. At Wagging Tails  we think about the small touches whilst taking care of the important things i.e. ensuring your dog is safe and happy whilst you are away. I could never send my lovely springer Pickles to kennels, it would feel like I was punishing her and I’m not alone.

I now get to work with fellow dog lovers and build relationships in the local doggy community all with Pickles by my side at work with me! Above and beyond this I also get to meet lots of lovely owners and carers and sleep easily at night, knowing that what I do means owners and their dogs are happy. Lucky me!

I am trained in Canine First Aid and have successfully completed the Animal Aiders Dog First Aid Training Course.

I hold a Diploma from The Academy of Dog Training and Behaviour having undertaken and passed their 'Understanding What Makes Dogs Tick' course.

About Our Carers

Coming from various walks of life and experienced with different breeds of dogs all of our carers have all been interviewed and assessed to provide home dog boarding to owners in the SL Postcode districts covering Marlow, Maidenhead, Windsor, Slough, Ascot and the surrounding areas. I would happily board my own dog, Pickles, with each of them. Where necessary our carers are licensed by their local Council to comply with the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963 and are fully insured through Wagging Tails Pet Business Insurance. I match each owner's dogs with the most suitable carers and insist on a 'sniffing out meeting' taking place at the carer's home before the board. I believe it is very important for owners to meet the chosen carer to gain peace of mind and feel confident their best friend will have a great dog holiday! I always aim to place dogs back with the same carer for subsequent holidays as the dogs and carers build a strong bond. Many owners have told me their dogs have dragged them to the carer's door knowing exactly where they are and that it's holiday time!

The majority of our carers are experienced past dog owners who love dogs but cannot have them full time, whilst some have dogs of their own who enjoy the companionship of a holiday playmate. Being a carer gives you the oppotunity to welcome dogs into your home when it is convenient for you and is also very sociable as you will also meet each of your guest's owners.

To find out more about becoming a carer please Contact Me (Sunny) or visit our Dog Carers page for further information.
